Voiceovers and VO Atlanta – The GKN Update 3/8/16

I love voiceover conferences.

The flying (I love airplanes), hotels, dining out, meeting new people, learning new things, I just love it all.

I love voiceover conferences even more when I’m a presenter. It’s an amazing way to give back to the voiceover community, promote my brand, etc. This year I had the privilege of speaking at VO Atlanta.

That’s me in the program. It makes me seem far cooler than I really am.

This is me on a Business and Marketing Panel. That’s Joe Cipriano to my right. He’s the promo voice for The Simpsons, Mike and Molly, and more. Nice guy!

I also moderated an audio book panel featuring Scott Brick (he’s narrated over 700 books!) and ran what’s called an X-Session on the business-side of voiceovers.

TIP OF THE WEEK

What did I learn at VO Atlanta?

I didn’t attend any actual sessions but I watched a few panels and got some great insight into how agents, casting directors, and online casting sites operate. The funny part is that I got the most knowledge from the panels I participated in! Every time it was someone else’s turn to speak I was itching to take notes but I couldn’t. The good news is that the panels were recorded so I can watch them later.

I was asked to be a part of the panels because I’m regarded as a thought leader and I have some nuggets of wisdom to offer. If at any point my head would start to swell, one of my fellow panelists would say something bloody brilliant and I’d come back to earth.

It reminded me that now matter how much knowledge, wisdom, or status you have acquired, you are always a student. There is always more to learn. There are always more ways to grow both professionally and personally. Never forget to stay humble, stay focused, and stay hungry!

HAPPY HAPPYS!

Happy Middle Name Pride Day and Day of Awesomeness! My middle name is Michael. What’s yours?
