Voiceovers And The Empire Strikes Back – The Not Silent Blog 10/3/17

Many say it’s the best film of the Star Wars series and I heartily agree. I remember watching it in the theater when I was a kid and it was a mind-blowing experience.

Last week my girlfriend and I went to see it at Lincoln Center performed by the New York Philharmonic orchestra. Here’s the promo:

In the lobby, there were two Stormtroopers and Darth Vader. The line to get your picture taken with Darth Vader was huge!

We also enjoyed a “Cantina Cocktail” and watched the vendors who were barely able to keep up with the demand for T-shirts and other souvenirs.

That’s the view from our seats while the crowd was filing in.

The show was sold out and there were almost 3,000 giddy kids and adults in the audience. I actually got a bit emotional when the opening credits rolled and the NY Philharmonic was pounding away at the score. Every time one of the main characters appeared on the screen for the first time, everyone cheered. We laughed at every funny line and ooh-ed and ahh-ed at every exciting moment. When Yoda said, “Do or do not. There is no try.” and Darth Vader said, “I am your father.” the audience went berserk.

Seeing The Empire Strikes Back live was one of the most exciting and fascinating events I have ever attended. It was an incredible experience!

TIP OF THE WEEK

The wonders of home entertainment technology like huge flat-screen televisions, Hulu, NetFlix, Amazon Fire, and other on-demand products & services have caused people to stay home more than ever. Between that, telecommuting, and online shopping, it’s a wonder we ever leave the house anymore. What’s more, we as a people are more insular and polarized than ever both culturally and politically.

But there were no red shirts or blue shirts that night! Nobody cared about anyone’s politics or lifestyle. We all gathered there because of our love of The Empire Strikes Back & the desire for a unique experience and hoo-boy did we get one.

Nothing beats the magic of a shared experience. That’s the joy of live concerts and movies and plays. It’s the mob mentality at its best. The same energy and unconscious mentality that causes riots also causes incredible experiences like the one we experienced at Lincoln Center. I think that’s part of what makes events like FaffCon so special.

With all that in mind, get out of your house and do something special with that someone or someones you love! Be part of a shared experience and bask in the synergistic energy that it generates. It will both invigorate and inspire you!
