I love Batman.
He’s one of my all-time favorite superheroes. In case you’re wondering, my fave is Martian Manhunter.
I’d get into why I love the big green guy right now, but that’s not the point of this blog. Another time…
Why do I like Batman so much? Yes, of course he’s a bad-ass and a childhood hero, but as an adult I’ve come to appreciate him in a different way. He epitomizes the three critical aspects to being a successful voice talent.
TIP OF THE WEEK
How can you be more like Batman?
Train: Batman trains like a boss. Not just training to beat up the bad guys, but honing his skills as a detective & scientist AND having the acumen to run his billion-dollar business. Your voice should always be in shape. You should have sharp copy-reading skills, sound engineering skills, and of course marketing & business acumen.
Be Prepared: Batman is known for being prepared no matter what happens. At one point in the comic books he got in big trouble because he had a file and every other superhero and figured out a way to beat them! As a voice talent, you need to be prepared too. For example, always have access to your Rate Sheet and demos when you’re out of the house so you can quickly answer a potential client’s inquiry.
Willpower: Batman has trained & prepared for many years, fighting the good fight. He knows that patience, hard work, and sticking to his values will help him overcome any obstacle. It’s hard to have the will to keep on keepin’ on in the voiceover industry. That’s why so many fail!
Oh, and here’s another really cool pic of Batman, just because…
