NEWS AND NOTES!
Remember that Anne Manx comic book I co-wrote? Now you can buy it at ComiXology!
If you use their app to read it it’s, well, freaking awesome.
I’ve been pursuing a voiceover career for almost twenty years now and I’ve learned that the key to success is finding the right match (clients) so you can establish and nurture a strong, healthy relationship. Sort of like dating!
Often I see voicers lament online about what a great catch they are but nobody wants to go out with them or they can’t get past the second date and have no idea why. With that in mind, here are some voiceover dating tips.
TIP OF THE WEEK:
Stand out from the Crowd. There’s only one of you and thousands of them, just like on all those dating sites. Never underestimate the power of good SEO (that’s Search Engine Optimization) which is critical for potential dates aka clients, to find you online. It takes time and money to improve your search results and trust me, it’s worth it. Don’t believe me? Google “explainer video narrator” right now.
Dress to Impress. Their first impression of you is your website & demos. How likely are they to date you if you’re wearing a powder-blue tuxedo and scuffed shoes? Or your “profile pic” is an obnoxious duck-faced selfie? Building a good website and producing quality demos also takes time and money.
Be Yourself. Sounds cliche, I know, but you’d be surprised how people don’t take this seriously. Don’t try to be something that you’re not and don’t write checks that your mouth can’t cash. Be honest and personable and most of all LISTEN!
QUOTE OF THE WEEK:
One disease, long life. No disease, short life. Chinese Proverb
STUFF!: Last week I saw a classic (Three Days of the Condor) and an animated masterpiece (The Secret of Kells). Both are on Netflix and The Secret of Kells is an Instant Play. These are must watches!
