I Came, I Saw, I Faffed – The GKN Weekly Update 3/31/15

Hello and Happy Crayola Crayon Day and Atheist Day. I don’t celebrate Atheist Day because I don’t believe in it. Get it?

I’m a passionate guy. I love life. I love food, music, movies, my career, my hobbies, my ventures, my family, and my friends with a zeal that many find refreshing and some find annoying (and that’s their problem). With all that in mind, there is nothing that I’m more passionate about than attending a Faff event and FaffCamp 2 in San Antonio was no exception!

FaffCamp is a voiceover conference where voice talents of all experience levels as well as agents, producers, audio engineers, and casting directors gather to learn & grow. Slide show time!

I came, I saw, I Faffed, and it was good!

TIP OF THE WEEK: Every time I attend a Faff event I walk away with something different. This time around, FaffCamp was a voiceover diagnostic for me. I put my career up on the lift and gave it the once-over. As it turns out, voiceovers are my business and business is good! Like all businesses, there are areas that need some tweaking but FaffCamp clearly shone a light on all of my opportunities for improvement but also indicated what I’m doing right. I’m looking forward to my “tune-up” to make me a better voice talent!

STUFF!: While we’re on the subject of FaffCamp, I am still shocked to discover that this incredible event has its detractors. Of course, said detractors have never attended a FaffCamp. It’s like when some politicians denounce a movie they have never seen. Really? How can you pass judgement on something you’ve never experienced?

Some say FaffCamp is for “newbs.” Not true. There is a Starting Smart track and a Working Pro track. Even though I’ve been doing this for a long time, I and many other veteran voicers attended several Starting Smart sessions to explore different genres or get a refresher on subjects like marketing or home recording.

If you have any questions about the FaffCamp experience, feel free to comment on this blog or message me privately. I welcome your thoughts!
