GKN Weekly Update 4/25/11

Happy Easter! I hope you got all the Peeps and ham you wished for. Pink peeps and ham, Sam I am…

BTW last week’s Eassover dinner was awesome! The food was great and the company was wonderful. Monkey/bumblebee shot!

Once again, I would really appreciate it if you voted for me in the “American Gods” audio book contest: click here, search for my profile name (Rognog), vote, and click “Save Vote”. BTW you can vote every day.

This contest generated a very interesting discussion in the VO community. One talent looked at the contest from a professional voice talent’s perspective and as such, found flaws. A concern was voiced about credit, transportation, the terms of the release, etc. and rightfully so, IF you’re a voice talent. If you’re a Neil Gaiman fan who knows nothing about the voiceover industry, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet this genius of an author and be a part of something truly amazing!

TIP OF THE WEEK: Someone once said to me, “If your only tool is a hammer, everything you see looks like a nail.” Everything is what it is, it all depends on how you look at it. You can have ten people look at a situation and get twelve different opinions on how to deal with it. This also reminds me of Stephen Covey’s fifth Habit of Highly Effective People: seek first to understand, then to be understood. If people spent more time trying understand why people do and say certain things, they would have a much easier time of listening and solving problems.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: The road to success is often a lonely one. From a fortune cookie

STUFF!: I’m gonna quote myself from the aforementioned discussion…

“I entered the contest and have asked for votes, but it had nothing to do with increasing my status as a voice actor. I LOVE American Gods and I think Neil Gaiman is a genius! It’s just a coincidence I happen to be an audio book narrator. If other talents entered just to advance their career, I can respect that.”

Break a leg to my friends who have also entered the contest!

From Tom Dheere’s apartment, this is Tom Dheere, GKN News…
